Wilts Wholesale Electrical, based at River Park Industrial Estate in Newbury has won an award from Education Business Partnership West Berkshire for its work in helping young people gain valuable work experience.
The certificate recognises that Wilts has made an outstanding contribution to Education Business Links during 2009.
Over the past year the branch has taken in more than 15 young people for a week at a time to give them experience working within the electrical wholesale industry. The trainees get involved in all aspects of the business including working in the warehouse, visiting customers and going out on deliveries.
Branch Manager, Nigel Daymond commented, “We believe strongly that young people really need a helping hand, especially in the current employment market, to gain valuable experience that will enable them to seek employment in the future. They are the future employees and if we start working with them now and give them a real hands on insight into the working world, they will go on to be great assets for local businesses. It’s really appreciated that our work with young people has been recognised in this way.”
The awards were given out on Tuesday 29 September at Shaw House in Newbury.
