Question: What different considerations need to be made when taking out van insurance as opposed to car insurance?
Answer: You need to make sure the CV policy provides you with business use, also being aware of any mileage restrictions, there are some policies where you state the mileage you do in a year, if you go over this limit you be up for a penalty.
As with any policy you need to make sure what driving restriction you are buying, insured only, Insured and named driver(s) or any driver - which is normally restricted to any driver aged 25 and over (but you can then name specified drivers under this limit). If you buy insured only cover you may want to check if the insurer will add a young driver, before you take out the policy, if they do what would be the charge compared to another insurer, and if not what the penalties would be if you cancel the policy.
Also need to check if the CV policy covers you for any goods carried in the normally, you will only get Personal Effects cover for £100.
