Surrey County Council's leader has hit out at "mad" government proposals to build thousands of homes built on the Green Belt.
The plans would see more than a million new properties constructed across the county.
Although exact details have not yet been released, Redhill and Reigate, Woking and Guilford are expected to be listed as sites for constructions in addition to the Green Belt, reports the Redhill and Reigate Life.
Conservative leader Andrew Povey accused the plans of being "too simplistic" and suggested that such decisions should be kept in the hands of local government.
He told the newspaper: "My concern is increasingly the sustainability of this house building.
"We repeatedly raised serious concerns about ensuring sustainable development and protecting the Green Belt before the Government published the South East Plan with its substantial homes allocation."
Guildford Borough Council has been given support from the country council to put forward a legal challenge to the proposals.
The final decision will be decided via six separate judicial review submissions.
