Redring Welcomes Changes To Part G

Redring

Redring fully supports the latest revisions to the Building Regulations and believes that they are a vital step towards improved safety measures for domestic hot water systems, whilst also tackling the important issue of water efficiency within the home.

According to recent reports, the changes that will come into effect for all new homes on 1st October 2009 will see the introduction of a new water efficiency standard of 125 litres per person per day, enhanced hot water safety and the setting out of where grey water and harvested rainwater can be used safely.

“It is encouraging that the Government is doing something to tackle the issues of hot water safety and water efficiency with the latest amends to the Building Regulations,” commented Kevin Tolson, Marketing Director, Redring.

“Hot water safety is something Redring takes very seriously and safety features are built into our hot water heating products as standard. However, it is important to note that the new regulations only affect new build properties and do not stipulate specific safety measures for showers. Therefore, it still remains the role of the installer to encourage customers to consider these issues when replacing showers and it is vital that they understand the importance of products that offer additional safety features, particularly for households with young children, elderly or less able people.”

The award-winning Selectronic range of showers from Redring are the most technologically advanced instantaneous showers available and combine thermostatic water temperature control with simple-to-use push button operation. The showers are pre-programmed to provide hot water at both a comfortable and safe temperature. In lock mode, the temperature is capped at 40ºC and safety features eliminate accidental temperature increase, offering protection against scalding.

Accredited by the RNIB, the Selectronic range was developed in conjunction with the RNIB who awarded it ‘inclusive design status’, making it the safest option for the blind, partially sighted, young children, elderly and less able. In addition to the RNIB endorsement, the Selectronic range also carries the BEAB CARE mark and meets the strict criteria of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).

The Selectronic range and Redring’s new Digimix thermostatic digital mixer shower also meet the new regulations in terms of flow rates. Both are electronically flow-controlled showers that can achieve as low as 6 litre/minute flow rates, without heating the water above 40oC. This also means that they both meet the Code for Sustainable Homes legislation.
