Global energy management specialist, Schneider Electric, has launched the latest addition to the SEPAM electrical network protection product range, the SEPAM series 10.

The SEPAM 10 is a protection relay for feeders and distribution transformers.  By constantly monitoring the power network, it can trip circuit breakers to isolate any faulty parts of the network in situations such as overloads, short circuits and insulation faults.  Suitable for MV/MV and MV/LV substations, it is an ideal solution for the protection of buildings with MV power supplies including offices, shopping centres, industry and warehouses.

The addition of the SEPAM series 10 to the existing range, which includes SEPAM 20 and 40, offers a cost effective solution for applications that do not require the extended features included on the other models.  However, this latest relay still offers all the same benefits, including easy installation and compliance with the European RoHS directive.  All products in the range are designed to have a low rate of energy consumption.

Other features of the SEPAM series 10 include permanent self-testing, allowing longer periods without maintenance.  In addition, the product provides improved power availability, through precise tripping and threshold time, logic discrimination capability and detailed operator information in the event of a trip.  The new protection relay uses a basic form of programming without a PC interface, reducing the set-up time needed for simple applications.

The new SEPAM series 10 is available in three models for varying needs.  Model N is the most basic, providing protection against earth faults, while B also protects against overloads and phase-to-phase faults.  The top of the range version is A, which offers the same benefits as model B, but incorporates digit inputs and further relay outputs, a communication port and additional protection and control functions.

Matthew Chapman, Protection and Controls Engineer for Schneider Electric, explained: “The SEPAM series of protection relays are a great selling product, but given the difficult economic times we felt it was important to offer a more rudimentary solution.  This means that even those with small budgets can still invest in much needed network protection, while being guaranteed all the standard benefits of our existing range.  In addition, the SEPAM series 10 is very easy to use and straightforward to install, making it ideal for those who really just need a basic level of protection.”
