A local council in North Yorkshire is planning to charge its staff for parking on its new premises in a bid to reduce car usage and vehicle carbon emissions.
Craven District Council is shifting its offices to Belle Vue Mills in Skipton and will require its employees to pay for using parking spaces provided by it.
Rates for the spaces, located at Belle Vue Mills, Cavendish Street Car Park, Craven Pool & Fitness Centre, and the present Granville Street site, have not yet been determined.
Councillor Chris Knowles-Fitton, leader of the local authority, said: "I fully believe that staff should pay for parking and providing free parking is a luxury that we cannot afford.
"Many employers aren't even able to go the lengths we are to provide any sort of parking facility for their staff."
The council also hopes that introducing the parking charges will boost car share programmes among employees.
