Innovative, sustainable and successful UK based companies gaining Queen’s Awards this year include AJ Wells & Sons, Aspen Pumps, Valor Fires, the Green Building Store, EnvironVent and West Energy Saving Technologies.

Isle of Wight based AJ Wells was recognised in the international trade category after seeing exports of Charnwood stoves increase eight fold to more than £2million over the past six years.

East Sussex based Aspen Pumps received an award in the same category for providing condensate pumps for the air conditioning and refrigeration industries.

In the innovation category Birmingham based Valor Fires was recognised for its Homeflame high efficiency inset gas fire range and EnviroVent won an award for the success of its filterless extract fan.

Meanwhile, West Energy Saving Technologies followed up last year’s H&V News award win with a triumph in the innovation category for its Ventmiser automatic ventilation controllers.

In the sustainable development category Huddersfield’s Green Building Store operator Environmental Construction Products also received recognition.

Managing director of EnviroVent Nick Heaton said: “We are all incredibly proud of achieving this renowned award as years of work have gone into building the success of the EnviroVent Filterless Extract Fan and our other innovative, sustainable Lifetime Range products.

"The Queen’s Award will undoubtedly add commercial value to our company and give us an advantage over our competitors.  2009 was already proving to be a good year and this accolade will help us with our expansion into new markets.”

Sales director at AJ Wells Hugh Wells  said: "We are delighted and honoured to receive The Queen's Award. Over the last few years we have seen great success in our overseas sales due to the innovative nature of our products; one example of this was with our Japanese customer who came over to Europe to find the very best fireplace products to sell in Japan.

"It was the technology in our products which so impressed them that they chose Charnwood over the rest of the competition. We find there is a general appreciation of British workmanship and quality and this has driven forward our business in France where we now have over 100 dealers and a full-time sales force."
