New ‘webcams’ have been launched today giving the public a front-row view of the construction of the Olympic Village.
The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) and Lend Lease have also released new images showing the first residential buildings in the Village starting to rise out of the ground.

The Olympic Village, which lies adjacent to the Olympic Park and Stratford City sites, will accommodate athletes during the Olympic and Paralympic Games and will leave the legacy of thousands of new homes, parks, public squares and community facilities after 2012.
ODA Chairman John Armitt said: 'The Olympic Village will be one of the strongest legacies from the Games, creating quality new homes for Londoners together with new parks, public squares and community facilities. As construction work accelerates on the Village site, these new webcams will keep the public up to speed on the progress we are making in the delivery of this essential project.'
Lend Lease Europe Chief Executive Dan Labbad said: 'The new images provided by the webcam demonstrate the substantial progress being made on site with buildings now rising out of the ground. We remain committed to delivering a world class development of high architectural and design quality, both as a home for athletes in 2012 and as an iconic sustainable community beyond.'
The Olympic Village will comprise 11 residential blocks, which are each roughly the same size as a football pitch. Each residential block is then made up of approximately 5-7 buildings which are built in a square layout around a traditional courtyard area. The courtyard areas in the middle of each block will include gardens and open space.
The Village webcams and latest images released by the ODA and Lend Lease today show:
- Construction work underway on the third floor levels of the first residential block
- Structural work now underway on the ground-floor levels of two further residential blocks
- Piling works complete to form foundations on 28 buildings (four residential blocks) – over 2400 concrete piles installed more than 20 metres deep
- Infrastructure works completed on a concrete tunnel to cover half a mile of railway line, allowing access across the Village site from north to south
- Six tower cranes erected on site – 22 cranes in total will be in place by the summer
The Olympic Village will accommodate athletes during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. After 2012, it will leave the legacy of new homes, many of which will be affordable, together with new parks, public squares and open space; an Academy education campus for all ages; multi-use community facilities; and new infrastructure to connect the new communities with the Olympic Park, one of the largest new urban parks in Europe for 150 years.
