Question: Currently I'm planning a refurbishment of my domestic kitchen and would like to replace the light with downlights recessed into the ceiling. Whilst halogen fittings could be used, I'd like to try using LEDs - if they're suitable for use. I've been struggling to determine what a suitable lighting level would be for a kitchen so I can compare halogen and LED units, which leads me to ask if you could assist? The kitchen is approx 3m x 3m with a ceiling height of 2.4m. How many LED fittings would be required in this ceiling. Also, could you suggest a suitable fitting. I've found a lamp unit that's equivalent to a 35W halogen ( GU10) at www.yourwelcome.co.uk/acatalog/GU10_LED_Lamps.html
If there's better lamps available I'd appreciate the help!
Answer: In my opinion, the use of LEDs for general lighting is not ready to replace TH downlights as yet. There are some units that can match the light output values, but they are designed for niche markets and are rather expensive.
Most GU10 LED light sources are for effect lighting rather then general lighting. We also sell GU 10 LED lights, but look at the download attachment.
