Question: With regard to industrial electrical installations and connected equipment, I seem to remember that periodic inspection and testing and certification can be omitted providing that there is a suitable system of electrical maintenance in place.
I have read a lot of maintenance guides, including IET publications, and have worked within a number of planned maintenance regimes, but as yet I have not found a definitive guide to what is a suitable system of electrical maintenance. Is there one?
Answer: The IET publications 'Electrical Maintenance' and 'In Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment Guide', together with HSE Guidance, are the only sources of reference that appear to be available.
The IET also provides a two-day course titled 'Electrical Maintenance'. This is structured around its book, details of which are to be found on the IET website www.theiet.org or by emailing coursesreg@theiet.org
