| MK RCBO - but what about discrimination? |

Question: Can you please advise about how discrimination of two RCDs/ RCBOs can be achieved when an outbuilding - such as a shed, garage, or workshop etc - is supplied from a domestic property under the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations?
For local protection, I understand that the 17th Edition requires protection via a 30mA RCD, so if the outbuilding was supplied with a consumer unit incorporating a 30mA RCD for personal protection, that would comply. But I am also under the impression that any outdoor supplies should be protected by a 30mA RCD from the main board. Is this so?
The current main board is to the 16th Edition. Normally I would logically replace the 30mA RCD in the main board with a 100mA RCD for discrimination, or even place a 100mA RCBO on a none-protected side of the main board, but I an unsure as to how this now stands with the 17th Edition.
Answer: All new electrical installation work should comply with the 17th Edition, including electrical work within outbuildings. Subject to the new electrical work required within the outbuilding, and the respective main building consumer unit arrangement to supply the outbuilding, it should be possible to provide discrimination in most cases.
