Question: When replacing a consumer unit and issuing a domestic electrical installation certificate, what is entered in the schedule of items inspected? If no wiring is carried out, would items such as 'routing of cables in prescribed areas' be entered as N/A?

Answer: If you are replacing a consumer unit, you issue an electrical installation certificate (domestic or small installation etc.), as you are required to test all circuits. On the front sheet of the certificate, you will state the extent of the installation as being 'replacing consumer unit only'. You should also state that a full periodic inspection & test was not carried out, and you should recommend that this be done.

On the schedule of inspections, you may state that 'routing of cables' is N/A as you have not carried out the PI&T.
