Legrand claims to be ‘the brand of choice’ for major European machine-tool manufacturers and international contractors. In 1978 the company initiated the concept of combined units with its first protected sockets. Twenty five years later, Legrand continues to innovate and respond to change in industrial environments by offering its two latest feature packed ranges: P17 Tempra and Hypra.
The company’s product managers recently carried out a substantial European market survey with known users of both Legrand and competitors’ products in a bid to establish exact user requirements. The survey results have enabled Legrand to develop a complete selection of P17 Tempra units that genuinely reflect user requirements while balancing efficiency with application versatility.
Three top priorities:
Aesthetically and ergonomically designed providing outstanding value for money with high specification, the P17 Tempra range easily fulfils the top three priorities revealed by users in the survey; ease of maintenance, speed of installation and high specification safety features.
Installation of the newest element of the P17 Tempra range, the combined unit, couldn’t be easier. Hard wiring is completed to a terminal block in the base; the front cover is then pushed home making the electrical connection and retained in place with ‘fast fix’ screws.
The unit includes a double mechanical inter-locking mechanism so that in lock position one the switch cannot be turned on unless a plug has been inserted. In lock position two the plug cannot be removed when the switch is on. A transparent window sits at the top of the combined unit for a clear view of protection devices.
Segregation between the double and triple units enables different voltages to be kept completely separate. This flexibility enables installers to create their own special assemblies from a Mosaic socket outlet to a 63A socket and all accommodated in one unit using standard catalogue items. The double and triple units compliment the single units, providing installation of up to 18 modules thereby providing solutions for any user requirement.
Nearly 100 combinations of the assembled product are offered through the use of 20 basic reference numbers and the DIN rail option enables the full range of Legrand Lexic modular devices to be housed.
Safety elements incorporated:
In response to user requirements Legrand has incorporated some excellent safety elements into the units. The switched interlocked units have been designed to be pad-lockable in both on and off positions while downtime has been minimised, as the front cover is totally isolated when removed from the base. The units pass BS EN 60 529 and IP66 / IP44 and as with all assemblies the 16 to 63A units are manufactured from a tough, durable material.
P17 Tempra plugs, sockets and combined units have a multitude of applications including farming, garages, hospitals, the fast food industry, children’s rides, theme parks and caravan sites to name but a few.
Top quality:
Designed to withstand the most challenging of industrial environments, the Hypra range of plugs, sockets and combined units are built to the highest quality.
Hypra comes equipped with strong external clamps in addition to the cable compression gland to secure the cable in place. This two-part clamp not only supports the cable but also ensures the braid is retained within the plug. Complete with stainless steel external fixing screws, the entire package ensures Hypra can cope with any environment.
The Hypra combined units provide the user with a robust, durable solution in 16 to 63A interlocked protected sockets up to IP67. The readymade or self-assembly options provide the user with added flexibility to fit a combination of industrial and commercial sockets.
To compliment the Hypra range Legrand has added the Hypra Prisinter; a unique device that combines ‘on-load’ interlocked switching with compact socket outlets in plastic and metal. The IP 44 – 55 Prisinter is also produced as a mobile socket up to 63A, making on-load isolation at the end of the extension lead and safe plug removal possible without walking back to the supply point.
A combined unit with the Hypra Prisinter socket is the more compact solution while marrying the two design technologies ensures the users safety. The plugs and sockets are resistant to extreme temperatures, from –20˚C to +100˚C while the combined units can withstand –15˚C to +40˚C. Common applications include industry, public works, off-shire oil and gas industry the building industry and chemical industry and general outdoor use.
Exceeds current Euro standards:
For more than 10 years Legrand’s selection of industrial plugs, sockets and combined units have fully complied with IEC 60309-2. That level of compliance continues with this new range which not only meets but also exceeds current Euro standards IEC / BS EN 60309-1 (safety and IEC60 309 –2 interchange ability) specified by the machine tool industry and major contractors.
With all the options available for users, Legrand is able to offer a complete one-stop shop for industrial plugs and sockets while combining safety conscious multi-functional capacity with ease of use.
