| Celing-mounted projector - can flex cord be uesd? |
|
Question: Is it permissible to make up a flexible cord of approximately 10m in length for a fixed ceiling-mounted projector - as opposed to installing a fixed final circuit with a 13A socket outlet for the power requirements of the appliance. What, if any, regulations does this practice contravene?
Answer: Guidance is given in the IET COP on In Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. Basically, there is no maximum length for a flexible cord given, provided that the cord's minimum cross sectional area and fuse ratings are as follows:
- 3A - 0.5 sq mm
- 13A - 1.25 sq mm.
