Past President and active CIBSE member Brian Moss presented his Gold Medal Address last night at the Royal Society of Arts in London.
Entitled ‘It doesn’t have to be this way’, the address looks back at the changes which have affected both CIBSE and the industry since he was President and predicts future challenges and changes.
Brian believes CIBSE is at the forefront of providing pragmatic answers to the difficult issues facing building owners and operators, and that the Institution must stay true to it’s mission statement ‘the promotion for the benefit of the public in general of the art, science and practice of building services engineering’. He calls for Government and the Institution to act in true partnership and suggests that Government would benefit from increased access to the expert, technical knowledge of CIBSE members.
The Gold Medal is the highest award to a member by the Institution and reflects the exceptional service Brian has given to CIBSE and the position of eminence within the industry that he has achieved over the years.
Brian has held the position of both President and Treasurer of CIBSE, as well as setting up and chairing the Publications and Research Output Delivery Committee (PROD), ensuring that the Institution’s guides are kept up to date. Under his leadership the quality and standing of technical publications has never been higher and publication sales continue to set new income records each year.
At the invitation of the Board, he chairs CIBSE Services Limited – the trading company responsible for running the Institution’s certification, events and training businesses. He currently leads the Climate Task Force – researching how engineers can incorporate future weather data into building design.
