FP600 and FP600S, Prysmian’s enhanced performance fire resistant power cables, have been certified by the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) for compliance with BS 7346-6:2005.
Both cables, already certified to British Standard 7346-6, and rigorously tested in Prysmian’s own state of the art fire testing facilities, now have the extra endorsement of independent third party accreditation from the LPCB. The test involves direct mechanical impact and water jet application under fire conditions and both cables achieved the maximum 120-minute rating.
Prysmian’s marketing manager, Julie Mould, commented, “All Prysmian cables are meticulously tested and are fully compliant with British Standards. The additional third party LPCB certification is increasingly required by customers specifying these types of cables. We would warn against installing fire performance cable that is not compliant with British Standards or approved by a third party such as LPCB.”
Over 1500 tests are carried out per year at Prysmian’s fire testing facility in Bishopstoke. Julie explained that, “It's during the development of these high performance products that fire testing facilities such as Prysmian's fire laboratory, are so important. Having the facilities on site enables cables such as FP600 and FP600S to be tested throughout the development process ensuring that they don’t just meet but exceed stringent standards such as BS7346-6.”
Both cables, designed specifically to meet the more onerous fire survival requirements now being requested by regulators and specifiers for fire fighting and life safety applications, have unique attributes, making them superior to other cables currently on the market. FP600, intended for cable cross sections up to 70 mm², has a superior mechanical protection provided by an interlocking steel tape armour that is maintained to an exceptionally high level under fire conditions. FP600S is designed for cross sections above 70 mm² and has a galvanized steel wire armour.
