Energy Bills in local authorities in England and Wales have rocketed 'through the roof' in the past two years, according to the chairman of the Local Government Association.
With prices leaping from £541 million in 2006 to £789 million this year, a £239 million increase, Sir Simon Milton was quoted as saying by Channel Four News that key services may have to be cut.
Sir Simon said: "With the cost of fuel escalating, councils, like people, will have to tighten their belts and come up with innovative ways to make their money stretch further."
He added that LGA councils provide more than 800 different services, many of which require petrol or diesel.
