From striking shuttlecocks to lighting a prestigious Bentley showroom, Rob Lucas is taking lighting engineering to new levels. His cuppa: English Breakfast, white, no sugar.
Born and raised in Exeter, Rob “fell into” his career of lighting design and engineering. He attended the Institute of Light and Design in Surrey, but studied media and marketing.
Being involved in a very competitive career niche, Rob took a chance and accepted work in design lighting sales for Wilts. In less than twelve months, Rob was managing the branch in interior, exterior and photometric lighting. Wilts eventually had to close down this branch, but Rob’s hard work and talent didn’t go unnoticed. He was then offered another job opportunity at Wilts – this time as a lighting engineer.
“I do everything from sports lighting, schools, swimming pools and offices,” said Rob. “If it’s got a light fitting, we’ll do it.”
Some of Rob’s notable projects include Exeter City Council offices, a Bentley showroom and - of course - all of the Wilts Electrical Wholesalers.
He has qualifications for the Lighting Industry Foundation (LIF) and is a Member of Society of Light and Lighting (part of CIBSE).
When he’s not busy lighting up the UK, Rob enjoys playing badminton and de-stressing at the gym. He is also a big supporter of the Exeter City Football Club along with the Exeter Chiefs.
