The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers’ (CIBSE) ’Young Engineers Network’ has won the Outstanding Contribution category at the Building Services 2008 Awards.
Normally awarded to an individual, the judges agreed that the prize should go to an initiative that is the work of a group of individuals – the CIBSE Young Engineers Network. The network is a voluntary group of regional centres established to provide a forum and support network for engineers new to the profession.
The network was praised for its ongoing work in promoting a positive and welcoming image of the industry and for providing a knowledge exchange. Initiatives such as this also help to raise awareness of building services careers in schools and universities, as well encouraging more women to enter the profession.
Michael Norton received the trophy on behalf of the CIBSE Young Engineers, commenting on the win he said: “I am delighted with the award and thrilled that the Young Engineers' Network has gained such recognition.
I have seen the Network grow and develop over the past two years and can now see how much of a difference it is making for the young people involved. The success to date would not have been possible without the guidance and support from various people within CIBSE as well as the members who sit on the various YEN committees."
The Building Services 2008 Awards took place on the 23rd June and were established by Building Services Journal and Electrical and Mechanical Contractor magazines to acknowledge and reward excellence, innovation and professionalism.
