Benefits of the G28d cap system
“In most luminaries, the energy saving lamp will soon be the lamp of choice. By reducing its total length with our energy saving cap/lampholder system G28d, we have removed one of the last obstacles to support a wider application of this lamp,“ OSRAM CEO Martin Goetzeler says explaining the significance of the new cap. Currently, there are four CFLi lamp types from OSRAM fitted with the new G28d cap/lampholder system: the DULUXSTAR Mini Globe 7 W, the DULUXSTAR Mini Candle 7 W, the DULUX EL Longlife 7 W, and the DULUX EL Longlife 11 W. “Once these four lamp types are launched, we plan to adopt the G28d for all OSRAM CFLi“ announces Goetzeler. With this move, OSRAM also sets a clear example of sustainability: once the luminaries are fitted with the new lampholder, they cannot be fitted with inefficient light bulbs.
Alternative solution in two lampholder versions
In developing its energy saving cap G28d, OSRAM worked closely with BJB, the world’s largest specialist in lampholders. The system resulting from the joint know-how has the potential of becoming the new standard for luminaries. It will be introduced into the market in two lampholder versions: one with an external thread for use with shade rings (40 x 2.5 millimetres), and one with a plain barrel. Both lampholders will allow installation with screw-type openings on smooth surfaces as well as in insulating caps or comparable retainers with clips.
Twist & Click principle: easy handling with maximum safety
Most notably, the energy saving cap/lampholder system G28d impresses because of its easy handling. With the new Twist & Click principle, the lamp can be installed in next to no time. Twisting the lamp by a maximum of 180 degrees positions the lamp in the holder.
A further twist of 20 degrees lets it “click“ into place to sit firmly in the holder. A simple system that simultaneously increases the safety: contrary to Edison lampholders, the contacts here can no longer be touched. The risk that the cap gets stuck in the holder when removing the lamp is also eliminated.
