British Energy may ditch plans to sell off its business, according to press reports.
The nuclear power firm was planning to auction off its business for £11 billion, but is now understood to be considering joining a series of joint ventures and a "return to Plan A".
Against a backdrop of surging wholesale electricity prices and robust profits, BE, which produces about a sixth of the UK's electricity, has dismissed a raft of takeover bids that the firm said materially undervalued the business.
Press reports now claim that BE is now looking at potential tie-ups with other power firms at its nuclear development sites.
French energy giant EdF is the only firm to come forward with a concrete official bid.
Spanish utility firm Iberdrola and Germany's RWE are also reportedly interested.
Meanwhile, EdF Energy is also prepared to leave the negotiating table after some of the group's largest shareholders opposed the £7 per share bid.
