SELECT, the authoritative trade body for the electrotechnical industry in Scotland, has once again demonstrated its firm commitment to best practice training with the co-sponsorship of an award at the prestigious National Training Awards.
With the Electrical Contractors’ Association, SELECT sponsored the Electrotechnical Craft Operative of the Year award at a glittering ceremony at the British Library in London attended by celebrity guest speaker Kriss Akabusi, MBE, who is himself a strong supporter of and investor in training.
The event was also supported by David Lammy, MP, the Skills Minister, and hosted by SummitSkills.
The awards recognised the remarkable talent and achievements in the building services engineering sector, including categories such as plumbing, electrotechnical, heating and ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration.
SELECT’s award went to Mark Billington, who is employed by Boulting Group and attends St Helens College. The award was open to young operatives from all over the UK who have completed S/NVQ Level 3 in electrotechnical.
Newell McGuiness, managing director of SELECT said: “Training is of vital importance in such a fast-paced and fast-changing industry, not only in consideration of core skills but also in continuing professional development.
“SELECT is very pleased to be able to support events such as the National Training Awards, which recognise and focus attention on the importance of training across a wide variety of disciplines.”
