Dear User,
This month, you can learn about a little more about EMC
and recent changes to the Directive. Read on:
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is the ability of two or
more electronic or electrical systems (or units) to co-exist without either
disturbing the correct operation of the other.
The original mandatory Directive (89/336/EEC) came into force
in January 1992. Under this Directive, OEMs have a legal requirement to state
that their equipment satisfies the requirements of the EMC Directive.
However, the UK regulations implementing the EMC Directive have
been recently revised, and this VoltiBULLETIN looks at the changes, and how
they, and the original Directive, affect the design and operation of
equipment.

electromagnetic disturbance to, or being affected by, that environment. In its
widest form it covers all the electrical emissions from a device, as well as the
effect of all forms of incoming signal. David Oldfield of Draka explains. Click
